International competition with Peter Eisenman
In 2004 a second international competition was held for the new venue of the Film Festival, which had seen Rafael Moneo as the winner in 1990.
We participate together with Peter Eisenman’s studio, at the request of Arup engineers in New York, London and Milan.
A temporary alliance that must combine two different ways of thinking about architecture which are at times conflicting, even if in the end we find, along the design path, common meeting points: as when we propose a long horizontal cut on the ground floor, a “tear” in the compact and continuous building front, proposed by Peter, overlooking the shore of the Lido. As well as the location of the auditorium that we propose should connect decisively with the internal canal and creating the straddling connection between sea and lagoon that had been skilfully experimented with a few dozen metres away with the construction of the Hotel Excelsior.
