Congress Centre Riva del Garda
A “contemporary square” at the confluence of pedestrian flows
The project foresees the creation of a large “contemporary square”, at the confluence of major pedestrian flows. A flat, 5000 square metre space that could become a new public and collective hub of the Upper Garda area, where open-air events and manifestations could be held, utilised by the Congress Centre, the Fair and the whole Garda and Trentino community.
The project proposes equipping the square with a pool of water that extends to the shore of the lake; a mirror of water that reflects the light of the Congress Centre building and renders water an irreplaceable element of the urban landscape. At the end, a pathway extends down to the lake with a mooring area for boats and transport: an opportunity that can give identity and resonance to the Congress Centre.
The Congress Centre is a completely new organism compared to the existing one, but created without modifying either the structure or the volume. The hall, reception and bar are redesigned logically to maximise the efficiency of the internal flows and movement. The rooms are housed in the existing building and are easily accessed, modular and flexible.
The 600-seat theatre, which recalls the shape and dimension of the theatres of the great Italian tradition, has excellent acoustics and is located on the opposite side of the glass spine, remaining however closely connected to it by walkways, stairs and lifts.
